731 Lexington Avenue<\/b>\u00a0is a 1,345,489\u00a0sq\u00a0ft (125,000.0\u00a0m2<\/sup>) glass\u00a0skyscraper<\/a>\u00a0on the East Side of\u00a0Midtown Manhattan<\/a>,\u00a0New York City<\/a>.<\/sup><\/sup>\u00a0It houses the headquarters of\u00a0Bloomberg L.P.<\/a>\u00a0and as a result, is sometimes referred to informally as\u00a0Bloomberg Tower<\/b>. The building also houses retail outlets, restaurants and 105 luxury\u00a0condominiums<\/a>. The residences are known as One Beacon Court and are served by a separate entrance.<\/sup>\u00a0The tower is the\u00a015th tallest building<\/a>\u00a0in New York City and the\u00a046th tallest<\/a>\u00a0in the United States. It stands at 55 stories tall, reaching 806\u00a0ft (246\u00a0m).<\/p>\n

Construction on 731 Lexington Avenue began in 2001, three years after the vacant\u00a0Alexander’s<\/a>\u00a0department store was demolished.<\/sup>\u00a0The building was developed by\u00a0Vornado Realty Trust<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0C\u00e9sar Pelli & Associates<\/a>\u00a0served as the design architect.<\/sup>\u00a0The building comprises a full city block between Lexington and Third Avenues and 58th and 59th Streets. The complex features two towers constructed above a steel office and retail section, separated by a seven-story atrium.<\/sup>\u00a0The residences are known as One Beacon Court and are served by a separate entrance.<\/sup>\u00a0The design of the courtyard at One Beacon Court, which connects 58th and 59th Streets, was inspired by other historic New York enclosures such as\u00a0Grand Central Terminal<\/a>, the reading room of the\u00a0New York Public Library Main Branch<\/a>, and the skating rink at\u00a0Rockefeller Center<\/a>; glass walls curve around the perimeter of the courtyard, tilting slightly inward as they rise.<\/p>\n
