The\u00a0<\/span>Palace of Fine Arts<\/b>\u00a0in the\u00a0<\/span>Marina District<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>San Francisco, California<\/a>, is a monumental structure originally constructed for the\u00a0<\/span>1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition<\/a>\u00a0in order to exhibit works of art presented there. One of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition, and\u00a0the only one still situated on its original site, it was one of ten palaces at the heart of the\u00a0Panama-Pacific Exhibition<\/a>, which also included the exhibit palaces of Education, Liberal Arts, Manufactures, Varied Industries, Agriculture, Food Products, Transportation, Mines and Metallurgy and the Palace of Machinery. Originally\u00a0designed by\u00a0Bernard Maybeck<\/a>, who took his inspiration from\u00a0Roman<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Greek architecture <\/a>in designing what was essentially a fictional ruin from another time,\u00a0it was rebuilt in 1965, and renovation of the lagoon, walkways, and a\u00a0<\/span>seismic retrofit<\/a>\u00a0were completed in early 2009.<\/span><\/p>\n
