The structure was designed by&nbsp;<a title=\"Germany\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Germany\">German<\/a>&nbsp;architect&nbsp;<a title=\"Ludwig Mies van der Rohe\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ludwig_Mies_van_der_Rohe\">Ludwig Mies van der Rohe<\/a>&nbsp;while the lobby and other internal aspects were designed by&nbsp;<a title=\"Philip Johnson\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philip_Johnson\">Philip Johnson<\/a>&nbsp;including&nbsp;<a title=\"The Four Seasons Restaurant\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Four_Seasons_Restaurant\">The Four Seasons<\/a>&nbsp;and Brasserie restaurants.&nbsp;<a title=\"Severud Associates\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Severud_Associates\">Severud Associates<\/a>&nbsp;were the structural engineering consultants.<\/p>\n<p>The building stands 515 feet (157 m) tall with 38 stories and was completed in 1958. It stands as one of the finest examples of the&nbsp;<a title=\"Functionalism (architecture)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Functionalism_(architecture)\">functionalist<\/a>&nbsp;aesthetic and a masterpiece of corporate&nbsp;<a title=\"Modern architecture\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Modern_architecture\">modernism<\/a>. It was designed as the headquarters for the Canadian distillers&nbsp;<a title=\"Seagram\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seagram\">Joseph E. Seagram&#8217;s &amp; Sons<\/a>&nbsp;with the active interest of&nbsp;<a title=\"Phyllis Lambert\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phyllis_Lambert\">Phyllis Lambert<\/a>, the daughter of&nbsp;<a title=\"Samuel Bronfman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Samuel_Bronfman\">Samuel Bronfman<\/a>, Seagram&#8217;s CEO. It has the worst&nbsp;<a title=\"Energy Star\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Energy_Star\">Energy Star<\/a>&nbsp;rating of any building in New York, at 3 out of 100.<\/p>\n<p><em>(excerpts
