Allen Lambert Galleria at Brookfield Place<\/h2>\n

Brookfield Place<\/strong>\u00a0(formerly\u00a0BCE Place<\/strong>)\u00a0is an office complex in\u00a0downtown Toronto<\/a>,\u00a0Ontario<\/a>,\u00a0Canada<\/a>, comprising the 2.1-hectare (5.2-acre) block bounded by\u00a0Yonge Street<\/a>, Wellington Street West, Bay Street<\/a>, and\u00a0Front Street<\/a>. The complex contains 242,000 square meters (2,604,866\u00a0sq\u00a0ft) of office space and consists of two towers,\u00a0Bay Wellington Tower<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0TD Canada Trust Tower<\/strong>, linked by the six-story\u00a0Allen Lambert<\/a>\u00a0Galleria<\/strong>. Brookfield Place is also the home of the\u00a0Hockey Hall of Fame<\/a>\u00a0and serves as the headquarters for\u00a0Brookfield Office Properties<\/a>, which owns the Bay Wellington Tower section of the complex. The TD Tower section is owned by the\u00a0Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System<\/a>\u00a0through its subsidiary\u00a0Oxford Properties<\/a>.

Allen Lambert Galleria<\/strong>, sometimes described as the “crystal cathedral of commerce”, is an atrium designed by Spanish architect\u00a0Santiago Calatrava<\/a>\u00a0which connects Bay Street with\u00a0Sam Pollock<\/a>\u00a0Square. The six-story high pedestrian thoroughfare is structured by eight freestanding supports on each side of the Galleria, which branch out into parabolic shapes evoking a forest canopy\u00a0or a tree-lined avenue because of the presence of building facades along the sides of the structure.<\/p>\n

The Galleria was the result of an international competition and was incorporated into the development in order to satisfy the City of Toronto’s\u00a0public art requirements.\u00a0It is a frequently photographed space and is heavily featured as a backdrop for news reports, as well as TV and film productions.<\/p>\n

The parabolic, arched roof that Santiago Calatrava created for the assembly hall of the Wohlen High School in\u00a0Wohlen, Aargau<\/a>,\u00a0Switzerland<\/a>, is generally considered to be a precursor of the vaulted, parabolic ceiling in the Galleria.
